Medical Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS)
This course is designed to prepare students to successfully pass the Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) through NHA and directly enter the exciting field of medical billing and coding. The Medical Billing and Coding Certification program offers our students a well-blended mix of classroom, audio-visual presentation and a shadow experience. Classes meet two (2) days a week, for three (3) hours each session. Generally, the classes are held on Tuesday/Thursday evenings. The duration of the course is seventeen (17) weeks and includes preparation for the certification examination administered by the National Healthcare Association (NHA). In addition to 102 hours in the classroom, and homework study time, our students are eligible to complete an 24-clock-hour shadow experience at the end. The shadowing serves as working experience, as well as a reference for future employment.

- Gather/review essential patient information
- Verify required documentation before patient information is released
- Prevent fraud/abuse by auditing processes
- Support coding and billing process
- Assign codes for diagnoses and procedures
- Submit claims for reimbursement
- Coach healthcare providers to achieve optimal reimbursement
